PRATTVILLE, AL — The Family Support Center, a nonprofit community resource located at 113 West Main Street in Prattville, continues to expand its efforts to strengthen families and support personal development throughout the River Region. Founded in 1997, the Center’s mission is to improve the quality of life for children and families through education, advocacy, and employment services. All programs are offered free of charge, made possible through a combination of federal, state, and local grants along with community support.
Since opening its doors, the Family Support Center has served thousands of individuals and families seeking stability, education, and opportunity. Each year, the organization assists approximately 2,000 participants through a wide range of educational and family-focused programs designed to encourage self-sufficiency and long-term success.
A key component of the Center’s work is its Adult Education Program. This program provides GED preparation, a High School Diploma Option, English as a Second Language classes, computer and digital literacy training, and career readiness services. Participants also receive support with resume development, job applications, interview preparation, and WorkKeys testing, helping adults improve employability and confidence in today’s workforce.
Beyond adult education, the Family Support Center places a strong emphasis on family strengthening and child well-being. Programs include parenting education, support for teen parents, fatherhood initiatives through the DADS program, and workshops focused on positive discipline and healthy family relationships. The Center also offers community training sessions on topics such as child abuse prevention, suicide prevention, and mandatory reporting requirements.
Workforce development remains another important focus. Job readiness and life skills classes help participants prepare for employment, with some programs offering incentives or stipends upon successful completion. These services are designed to remove barriers to employment while equipping participants with practical, real-world skills.
Community involvement plays a critical role in sustaining the Center’s mission. Local residents, businesses, and organizations are encouraged to support the Family Support Center through donations, sponsorships, and participation in fundraising events. According to the organization, every contribution helps leverage additional grant funding and expands the reach of its programs.
As the Family Support Center looks ahead, it continues to grow its offerings and community partnerships to meet the evolving needs of families across Autauga and Elmore counties.
